Some Training Attendees Words
Training was detailed, flowed well and taught a lot about the importance of notes.
The knowledge gained in this training will not only be helpful for me in the workforce but also during my internship.
...priceless information to enhance the students' understanding...of progress notes
I like that you spoke facts and gave examples of what to do and what not to do.

From Recent Interns
Prior to Marcy’s guidance, I would often leave out important information in my documentation. Marcy taught me the importance of subjectivity, objectivity, overall assessment, and plan. Marcy outlined the importance of not just taking what the client says at face value, but also inputting the relevant information that is required for a thorough documentation note. Marcy’s teaching style is both encouraging and direct, which allows for continued learning and growth.

Marcy, You certainly made a difference in my life. I want to express my gratitude. Everyday when I see students [as a school social worker] I think of all your teachings. When I write my notes I remember all of your advice. I am deeply grateful for your training and all you did. I can't thank you enough.

I was under the supervision of Marcy during my second-year MSW placement at UCLA back in 2020. She has been an incredible support through my process of navigating clinical social work. With Marcy’s help, I developed the insight to expand my assessment, documentation, and general organizational skills needed to be a successful social worker. She has been an asset through my journey and I would recommend her to anyone looking to advance in the field of social work.

We're Licensed Now!
I am the clinician that I am today because of Marcy Pullard’s documentation training. Earlier in my career Mrs. Pullard stressed the importance of sticking to the facts but also the importance of writing offensively and defensively. Her teachings have given me the confidence to know that my documentation is solid.

"In 2008 I was lucky to be accepted under the internship turned mentorship of someone with such a vast wealth of professional experience gained from her many social work roles. It was one of the greatest opportunities in my academic career to receive my training from such a seasoned clinician invested in training future social workers new to the field. She taught me the importance of completing a thorough assessment, and practicing in an ethical manner that includes documentation that meets all industry standards. I have remained in contact with Marcy over the years and as I grew in my professional capacities. We are colleagues now and she continues to make herself available for consultation regarding cases and documentation, as well, she has provided me with professional guidance regarding career considerations." I still fondly refer to as my “Social Work Goddess.”

Marcy has been my mentor since 2002, when she hired me as a new MSW graduate. She has been an exceptional teacher, who was instrumental in honing my professional and clinical skills. Her knowledge and passion for social work helped me to navigate some of my most challenging cases as a young social worker with little experience. She was patient when I struggled, and would guide me through the DSM until I found the answers I needed. Marcy was a such a great supervisor and mentor. She has been a constant support throughout various jobs, for which I will always be grateful.

Why, after years of school, is documentation training still necessary?
In school, social work courses focus on theories, human behavior, diversity, and specific populations, but they rarely offer in-depth training on documentation. Most programs mention documentation briefly, but students need significant training to build a strong foundation in the assessment and documentation of direct services. Without proper and quality documentation, everyone is at risk.
VS
A practicum experience is required for all BSW and MSW students, but you aren’t guaranteed to learn what you need to know about the documentation process because agency supervisors are tasked with teaching students about the agency, the clients, services, etc., so documentation that is taught is often specific to the placement agency. While that may be an efficient training method, it does not result in the development of transferable documentation skills.
The Essentials of Documentation training fills this gap. By taking this course you will receive expert instruction from a seasoned social worker with extensive experience in crisis assessments and documentation quality assurance. This training goes beyond what is typically covered in academic courses, ensuring students learn skills to document thoroughly, yet clearly and concisely, using strategies that can be applied across agencies, with or without a specific format.
